In May 2020, Office Builders successfully completed the design and construct fitout of a medical practice in the new SANS Clinic Wahroonga for Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr Simmer Gill, who was seeking to establish a greater presence at the Hospital to meet the increasing demand for consultation and surgical services.
Given the limited scale of the Tenancy, the Client Brief presented both functional and layout challenges for Designer Susie Trainor, who created a light open space featuring generous Reception/Waiting connecting through wide corridor to rear Consulting Rooms, and a Treatment Room for out-of-theatre minor procedures. Aesthetically, Dr Gill expressed a desire that the front-of-Practice tastefully reflected her cultural heritage. Susie achieved this by effectively combining finishes such as bold timber grain, textured wallpaper, velvet sofa and decorative mood pendants.
The physical build provided only one significant obstacle involving hydraulics, where conventional core-drilled waste drainage was abandoned in favour of pump-out due to the existence of a concentrated network of above-ceiling services throughout the state-of-the-art Pathology practice directly below.
An unexpected situation occurred early in the fitout with the onset of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. To ensure adherence to social distancing guidelines, we implemented a one Contractor per day Protocol. Through greater co-operation of Trades and tighter monitoring of programme, we were able to deliver handover without compromising Dr Gill’s establishment time-frame.
